Be a Key to Goodness

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

“Indeed from amongst the people are those who are keys to goodness and closures of evil. And indeed from amongst the people are keys to evil and closures to goodness. So glad tidings for the one who Allah has made him a key to goodness and woe to the one who Allah has made a key to evil.”

 [Narrated by Ibn Maajah, declared Hasan by Albaani]

 

That which is obligatory upon whoever wants for himself to be a key to goodness and a closure of evil, and its glad tidings:

1. Al-Ikhlaas – sincerity to Allah in all your speech and action. Indeed sincerity is the basis of all good, and the fountain of all virtue.

2. Du’aa – To supplicate and return to Allah in order that he may be given the guidance to be so. For indeed the Du’aa is a key to all goodness. Allah does not refuse to answer the supplication of His servant and He does not disappoint a believer after he has called Him.

3. Dedication to seeking knowledge – for indeed knowledge is a cause for virtue and lofty actions, and it is a barrier preventing all evil and indecency.

4. Al-Ibaadah – To turn to worshipping Allah, especially the obligatory acts of worship; particularly the prayer, as it prevents lewdness and evil.

5. Good Manners – to adorn yourself with good noble manners and to distant yourself from bad manners that are lowly.

6. Good Companions – to keep yourself amongst good companions and to sit with the righteous people. For indeed the angels lower their wings upon the gatherings of righteous people and the mercy of Allah descends upon such gatherings. Also, be aware of the gatherings of the disobedient and evil people.

7.  An-Naseehah – to sincerely advise the servants of Allah when living amongst them, and dealing with them. This is done through keeping them busy with goodness and turning them away from evil.

8. Day of Recompense – to remember and recall the day when you will stand in front of the Lord of the Worlds, and that He will reward all goodness with His goodness, as he will recompense all evil with its consequences.

 

As Allah said: “So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom shall see it.”

[99:7-8]

 

Conclusion: All of the above is based upon the servant desiring goodness, and wanting goodness for others and wanting to benefit the servants of Allah. So whenever one’s desire is present, the intention correct and established and the resolve certain, as well as seeking the help of Allah in all of this and taking the relative means, he will – by the permission of Allah – be from amongst the keys to goodness and closures of evil.

 

And Allah is the One who protects and helps His slaves through His guidance, He gives victory to whoever He wants by the truth and He is the best of those who aids and gives judgments.”

จากท่านอะนัส อิบนุ มาลิก เราะฎิยัลลอฮุอันฮุ ได้เล่าว่า ท่านเราะสูลุลลอฮฺ ศ็อลลัลลอฮุอะลัยฮิวะสัลลัม ได้กล่าวว่า “แท้จริงในหมู่มนุษย์นั้นจะมีผู้ที่เป็นกุญแจไขสู่ความดีงามและปิดกั้นสิ่งที่ชั่วร้าย และในหมู่มนุษย์นั้นก็จะมีผู้ที่เป็นกุญแจไขสู่ความชั่วร้ายและปิดกั้นสิ่งที่ดีงาม ดังนั้นความดีจงประสบแด่ผู้ที่อัลลอฮฺทรงประทานให้เขาเป็นกุญแจไขสู่ความดีงาม และความพินาศจงประสบแด่ผู้ที่อัลลอฮฺทรงทำให้เขาเป็นกุญแจไขสู่ความชั่วร้าย”

ซึ่งมีหลักในการปฏิบัติสำหรับผู้ที่ปรารถนาที่จะให้ตัวของเขาเป็นดั่งกุญแจไขสู่ความดีและปิดกั้นสิ่งที่ชั่วร้าย โดยมีข้อแนะนำที่ควรปฏิบัติดังต่อไปนี้

1. จงมีความบริสุทธิ์ใจต่ออัลลอฮฺในคำพูดและการกระทำต่างๆ แท้จริงแล้วความบริสุทธิ์ใจคือรากฐานแห่งความดี และเป็นบ่อเกิดอันทรงค่าของความดีทั้งหลาย

2. ขอดุอาอ์วิงวอนขอต่ออัลลอฮฺ เพื่อที่ว่าพระองค์จะทรงประทานแก่เราซึ่งทางนำแท้จริงแล้วการขอดุอาอ์นั้นเป็นกุญแจที่ไขไปสู่ความดีงามทั้งหลาย และอัลลอฮฺมิทรงปฏิเสธการวิงวอนร้องขอจากบ่าวของพระองค์ และพระองค์ไม่ทรงทำให้ผู้ศรัทธานั้นผิดหวังหลังจากที่เขาได้ร้องขอต่อพระองค์แล้ว

3. อุทิศตนและมุ่งมั่นในการแสวงหาความรู้ แท้จริงความรู้นั้นเป็นบ่อเกิดของการมีคุณธรรมและจริยธรรมที่สูงส่ง และสามารถป้องกันความชั่วร้ายและสิ่งที่หยาบช้าทั้งหลายได้

4. หมั่นเพียรประกอบอิบาดะฮฺ (ปฏิบัติศาสนกิจ) ต่ออัลลอฮฺ โดยเฉพาะการถือปฏิบัติในสิ่งที่เป็นข้อบังคับ (ฟัรฎู) โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการละหมาด เพราะมันจะเป็นสิ่งที่ยับยั้งจากสิ่งลามกเลวทรามและสิ่งชั่วร้ายได้

5. มีจรรยามารยาทที่ดี – ประดับประดาตัวเราด้วยมารยาทที่ดีงามและให้ห่างไกลจากการมีมารยาทที่ต่ำช้า

6. มีมิตรสหายที่ดี พยายามให้ตัวเองได้อยู่ในกลุ่มของคนดี (คนศอลิหฺ)         และอยู่ร่วมกับกลุ่มคนทีมีคุณธรรม แท้จริงแล้วปีกของมลาอิกะฮฺจะแผ่ปกคลุมในกลุ่มคนที่มีคุณธรรมที่มาอยู่รวมกัน และความเมตตาจากอัลลอฮฺจะลงมาสู่กลุ่มคนเหล่านั้น และให้พึงระวังจากการคบหาสมาคมกับคนที่ไม่ดีทั้งหลายที่อาจนำไปสู่การทำชั่วได้

7.อาศัยการตักเตือนคือการให้คำแนะนำด้วยความจริงใจระหว่างบ่าวของอัลลอฮฺในอยู่ร่วมกันของพวกเขา และเมื่อมีปฏิสัมพันธ์เกี่ยวข้องต่อกัน ด้วยการทำให้พวกเขามุ่งมั่นอยู่กับกับการทำความดีและทำให้พวกเขาไกลห่างจากสิ่งที่ชั่วร้าย

8. พึงระลึกถึงวันแห่งการตอบแทน คือวันที่เราจะต้องยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าพระพักตร์ของผู้ทรงอภิบาลแห่งสากลโลก เป็นวันที่พระองค์จะทรงตอบแทนความดีให้แก่ผู้ที่รักษาความดีงามทั้งหลาย และพระองค์จะตอบแทนความเลวร้ายนั้นจากผลของความเลวร้ายของมัน

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْراً يَرَهُ، وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرّاً يَرَهُ (الزلزلة :7-8 )

ความว่า “ดังนั้นผู้ใดกระทำความดีหนักเท่าละอองธุลี เขาก็จะเห็นมัน ส่วนผู้ใดกระทำความชั่วหนักเท่าละอองธุลี เขาก็จะเห็นมัน”

(สูเราะฮฺ อัซ-ซัลซะละฮฺ : 7-8)

 

โดยสรุปทั้งหมดที่กล่าวมานั้นขึ้นอยู่กับผู้ที่เป็นบ่าวมีความปรารถนาในความดีงามและเขามีความต้องการให้ผู้อื่นได้รับความดีงามอันนั้นด้วย และมีความต้องการที่จะได้รับผลแห่งความดีในการเป็นบ่าวของอัลลอฮฺ ดังนั้นเมื่อใดก็ตามการที่บ่าวคนหนึ่งมีความปรารถนาอย่างแรงกล้าและมีเจตนาที่ถูกต้องและเป็นที่ยอมรับแล้วและและมีความตั้งใจอันแน่วแน่พร้อมกับวิงวอนขอความช่วยเหลือจากอัลลอฮฺในเรื่องดังกล่าวแล้ว และด้วยวิธีการอันนี้-และด้วยความประสงค์ของอัลลอฮฺดังนั้นเขาเป็นหนึ่งในบรรดาผู้ที่เป็นกุญแจไขไปสู่ความดีงามและปิดกั้นความชั่วร้าย

 และอัลลอฮฺนั้นคือผู้ที่จะให้ความช่วยเหลือแก่บ่าวของพระองค์ด้วยการประทานฮิดายะฮฺของพระองค์ และพระองค์จะให้ชัยชนะแก่ผู้ที่พระองค์ทรงประสงค์ด้วยกับสัจธรรม และพระองค์นั้นคือผู้ที่ดีที่สุดที่ให้การช่วยเหลือและในการตัดสินทั้งปวง

”The Battle of Hearts and Minds”

Lecture by Sheikh Anwar Awlaki

 

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful!

All praise is to Allah and peace and blessings on our Prophet Muhammad and his righteous companions and followers

Dear brothers and sisters

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

All praise is to Allah the Lord of the Worlds, we ask Allah Almighty to accept all our efforts. We ask Allah Almighty that he provides us with beneficial knowledge. 

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًاً

اللهم إنا نعوذ بك من علم لا ينفع،

 

Oh Allah, I ask you for knowledge that is of benefit

O Allah, I seek refuge with you from the knowledge of no benefit,

 

As was announced that the topic of this lecture is about the “Battle of Hearts and Minds”, and I started by, reading to you a quote from a report from Rand Institute in 2007 which states that:

“The struggle under way throughout much of the Muslim world is essentially a war of ideas, its outcome will determine the future direction of the Muslim world”.

So there is the struggle of ideas going on, right now, in the Muslim world. And according to the Defense department, the US Defense Department in its quadrennial defense review report: the US Defense Department

“The United states is involved in a war that is both a battle of arms and a battle of ideas.

A war in which, ultimate victory, will be achieved only when extremist ideologies are discredited in the eyes of their host populations and passive supporters”.

So according to Rand and according to the Pentagon and truth fully so, there is a struggle of ideas going on in the Muslim world, but what is their position regarding this internal affair, this affair that concerns Muslims,this battle of ideas between those who want to follow Islam as it was reveled to Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah on him), they want to follow Islam in its entirety and those who want to pick and chose from Islam, they want to follow Islam selectively.

Now, this issue is not new with Muslims, in every age, there are Ahl-Haqs and there are those who want to deviate from the true path. Throughout our history this was a struggle that Allah destined to remain and it even existed among the believing nations before us.

For example, with Banu Israel there were those who held on to the truth and then there were those whom Allah Almighty said about in Quran:

“They change the meanings of the words”. (5:13).

So, they would take the words of the Bible and they would change it. And some of that was done to please the authorities of the time, because we know that Bani Israel lived under various nations.

For example they lived under the Roman rule, and that time the Romans were pagan. And they lived under the rules of the kings of Babel, and they were pagans too.

And according to a story mentioned in Tafseer that at a particular time some of the Rabbis of Bani Israel gave a Fatwa to the King of Babylon allowing him to have a forbidden relationship,but they gave him such a fatwa to please that king.

So they changed the rule of Allah the Almighty, in order to please a human being! So this conflict of ideas, that is going on in the Muslim world, what are these non-Muslims doing about it! According to the US news and World report:

“Today Washington is fighting back after repeated missteps since the 911 attacks, the US government has embarked on a campaign of political warfare unmatched, since the height of the cold war. From military psychological operations teams and CIA covert operatives to openly funded media and think tanks, Washington is plowing tens of millions of dollars into a campaign to influence not only Muslim societies but Islam itself.”

Now hear this again “The US is trying to change Islam itself!!!”.

 Without any shame, they are openly stating that we have a desire not only to influence the Muslim societies but we want to change the religion itself!

Probably at the time of Bani Israel those Rabbis who were changing the book of Allah never dared to say so openly! These, without even hiding it, are saying that we want to change Islam, yes we do! And then the article carries on saying that:

“In at least two dozen countries, Washington has quietly funded Islamic radio and TV shows, course work in Muslim schools, Muslim think tanks, political workshops or other programs that promote moderate Islam. Federal aid is going to restore Mosques, publish Quran and even build Islamic schools”.

Well as we see here, they are trying to promote this modern Islam, modern according to their definition, and they are spending millions of dollars to do so. Brothers and sisters, when a Muslim, a true Muslim, hears this, he hears that non-Muslims who have no knowledge about the religion,

who do not believe in Allah Almighty who don’t believe in Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and don’t take Quran as the book of Allah, when a Muslim hears that such a people, are openly claiming that we want to change your religion, this should make any Muslim who has any love of Allah Almighty angry! How dare you?! And who are you?! To tell us what Islam is and isn’t.

In fact we even find that President Bush is standing in front of the microphone, teaching us about Islam, giving us Khutbah about Islam.

In an address he gave in 2002, he asserted, “Islam is a faith that brings comfort to a billion people round the world and has made brothers and sisters of every race it is a faith based upon love not hate”.

Now his statement is true, I mean that Islam is a faith that brings comfort to people around the world and it has made brothers and sisters of every race and is a religion that is based upon love not hate. I mean that the statement to some extent is right. But who is Bush to tell us what Islam is and isn’t?

Who gave him the authority, to speak for Islam? And, praise is to Allah we found that some Muslims at the time were happy and proud that Bush has spoken in this way about Islam. But the issue shows the arrogance and the condescending view that these Kuffar have, they think that we are in need of somebody to tell us what Islam is and what it isn’t.

In fact, this condescending view didn’t go unnoticed even from some non-Muslim commentators. One of them said, sarcastically that

“The political leadership collectively appears to have acquired an instant post graduate degree in Islamic studies enabling them to lecture the population concerning the true nature of Islam”.

Tamer Mustafa: Racism is deeply rooted in the souls of the followers of the Jewish religion, especially since their exile to Iraq, or Babylon, in 586 BCE. There they wrote a new Torah, completely different from the Torah received by Moses. Into this Torah they inserted the spirit of racism, which spread like a virus in the minds of every Jew ever since. Let me mention three books as examples. One of them is the Torah that exists today, which is known as the Old Testament, especially by our Christian brothers. After World War II, a British minister said that this Torah was the “most dangerous book on the face of this planet,” because it contains the loathsome virus of racism, which leads people to war.

 

The Zionist movement operated against the Jews living in European countries, in order to force them to immigrate to Palestine. This movement perpetrated many crimes, even helping the Nazis to kill groups of Jews, so that the others would be forced to emigrate to Palestine. That is what happened. Then they established schools, and raised their new generations according to this abhorrent racist notion.

 

When the Jews went to Europe, the first thing they did was to take over the media outlets there. They even took control of the curricula in Europe, or in the Christian West. They took control of the media, the curricula, and the capital. What is Man if not knowledge – in other words, schools – media, and money? These are the things that rule people. Whoever possesses these three things has the ability to control the behavior of others.

 

Once they had taken over these means, nobody had the courage to oppose them. They began to spread the ideology they wanted, and the first thing that they destroyed in Western man was the morality that he absorbed from the Christian religion. The Christians in the West – and I have the greatest respect for my Christian brothers in the East, who differ from them completely… This is Christianity, and that is an illusion of Christianity.

 

They demolished Christian moral values in the West, and the Westerners reached the point where they are interested in nothing but… And I say this with all frankness, because I used to live there… Like beasts, they care only about food, drink, and survival.

 

A Frenchman called Jacque Roques [sic] wrote a dissertation about the Holocaust…

Tamer Mustafa: He refuted all those lies, and got his Ph.D. from Sorbonne with distinction. However, the French minister of high education immediately received orders to revoke his Ph.D. Thus, Roques was denied his civil rights in his own country, France.

“Judgment Day will not come before the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims will kill the Jews, and the Jews will hide behind the trees and the stones, and then the trees and the stones will say: Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the gharqad tree will not speak because it is one of the trees of the Jews.”

 

عن أبي هريرة -رضي الله عنه- أن رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – قال : لا تقوم الساعة حتى يقاتل المسلمون اليهود فيقتلهم المسلمون حتى يختبئ اليهودي من وراء الحجر والشجر فيقول الحجر أو الشجر : يا مسلم يا عبد الله هذا يهودي خلفي فتعال فاقتله إلا الغرقد فإنه من شجر اليهود

Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Judgment Day will not come unless Muslims fight the Jews. Muslims will defeat and kill Jews. The Jew will hide behind the stone and the tree, and the stone or tree will say: ‘Oh Muslim, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him! Only the Gharqad tree will not say because it is the tree of Jews.”

 Following are excerpts from an address delivered by Sheik Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi, Chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, which aired on Al-Jazeera TV on February 21, 2011.

Sheik Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: The truth is that I do not want to say anything to Al-Qadhafi, because one should only address people who are reasonable. People who are not reasonable should not be addressed. That man is no longer reasonable. He has been crazy for a long time.

Among the signs of his madness, as we have seen, he wanted to be a philosopher, and come up with theories, like Marx and Mao Tsetung… He invented the Third Theory…

We have seen his peculiar behavior. He has become the laughing stock of every Arab summit. He’s the joker. He travels all over the world in his colorful clothes, carrying his tent with him all over the globe, no matter the cost, in which he hosts his visitors.

This is on top of the kind of life he imposed on Libyan society, where there is no parliament, no Shura Council, no political parties, no institutions… He himself embodies the institutions. He is everything and nothing. He says: “I am not a president.” So what are you?! He is everything.

If you are indeed [the father of] the people, where is your compassion for them? You claim to be a commander and a father, but does a father ever kill his children?! Does a commander ever kill his soldiers?! And in this manner!

We haven’t seen anyone… Even Israel, when it attacked Gaza… These Jews were described as cruel: “Then your hearts were hardened, and became as rocks, or even harder.” Even the Jews did not do such a thing.

This man is not even worthy of me addressing him. I thought that his son had a grain of sense or belief in him. He is called Seif Al-Islam [“Sword of Islam”), but he is one of the swords of pre-Islamic ignorance. He wants to pit the tribes against one another. Praise be to Allah, the tribes have thrown them into the garbage bin.

Therefore, I address the Libyan army, which is definitely endowed with faith, manliness, and honor. They must not attack their own people. Who would kill their own people?! Would you sacrifice an entire people for the sake of a madman?!

It is forbidden to obey the order of a human being in defiance of the Creator. If the army is ordered to attack the people with airplanes, I say that they must not do so. Rather, they should attack whoever gave them that order.

I hereby issue a fatwa to the officers and soldiers who can kill Mu’ammar Al-Qadhafi: Whoever among them can fire a bullet at him, thus relieving the country and the people of him, should do so. This man wants to annihilate the people, so I am protecting the people.

I rule that whoever can fire a bullet, and relieve us, as well as Libya and its great people, of this man’s evil and danger, should do so.

Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: I think [the shari’a] should be implemented gradually. This is a law of the shari’a and a law of nature.

We should do things gradually. We should prepare the people, teach them. People have to learn. We have to make an effort to teach people the truth about Islam.

People do not understand the shari’a properly. We have to teach people the laws of the shari’a and explain them, before anything else. I think that in the first five years, there should be no chopping off of hands. This period should be dedicated to teaching things.

A transitional phase… This should be a period in which we teach people the true laws of the shari’a. when we find food for all the hungry, schools for all the pupils, hospitals for all the sick, homes for all those who want them, wives for all the bachelors – then we can discuss the punishment for theft.

All the [presidential] candidates are good, but I support the candidacy of our brother Abd Al-Mun’im Abu Al-Futuh.
